Preliminary course (PC) for the foreign students was created at 1991 and it is aimed at first to train the future undergraduate, post-graduate and Ph.D.-students in Russian language in the volume enough for the normal education of curriculum disciplines, and secondly to train the graduates of the foreign secondary schools in the main subject, such as mathematics, physics, informatics, chemistry and engineering drawing.

The students from United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, USA, Germany, Canada, Mongolia, Turkey, Vietnam, China, Myanmar, Nepal, India, Republic of Korea, Sri-Lanka, Japan, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Central-African Republic and many other countries have studied and are studying at MPEI Preliminary course.

Th acceptation of applications and investigation the documents of PC applicants’ are performing all-the-year-round. The beginning of classes in PC groups – from September 1st to October 25th, and from February 15th to March 20th.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT MPEI Preliminary Course:
Education programs at PC are aimed to:

1) preparation to acceptation at MPEI on the Bachelor course for education in Russian medium;

2) preparation to education at the Bachelor course in English medium for the only specialty "Information Science and Computer Engineering";

3) preparation in Russian language before acceptation at the Master course after graduation from Bachelor course of other foreign or Russian university.

1. Preparation to acceptation at MPEI on the Bachelor course for education in Russian medium is fulfilled consisting of the foreign students’ group nine persons in number. The education at PC is conducted in Russian language, mathematics, physics, informatics, engineering drawing and chemistry.

The education may include one or two semesters depending on the initial level. Each semester includes 20 academic weeks. The education lasts 30 academic hours (1 academic hour is 45 minutes) per week. Fall semester (from September 1st to January 25th) is devoted to Russian language training only. The spring semester (from February 7th to June 30th) besides the Russian languages classes (16 hours per week), the curriculum includes mathematics (4 hours per week), physics (4 hours per week), infornatics (2 hours per week), chemistry (2 hours per week), and engineering drawing (2 hours per week).

A half-year PC can be used for saving the money and time for the students who was trained earlier in Russian language in accordance with requirements of the basing level (the interview is conducted at the MPEI Department of Russian language to check the initial level). Th acceptation is provided on the spring semester, the training duration is one semester.

Full-year PC must be used for the students who do not possess Russian language at all and the education is arranged on the basis of the standard program. The acceptation is possible at fall semester, the training duration is two semesters.

One-and-a half year PC can be chosen by the students who wishes to get the advanced Russian language possession before the acceptation at Bachelor course. The acceptation is conducted at spring semester and training duration is three semesters.

2. Preparation to education at the Bachelor course in English medium for the only specialty "Information Science and Computer Engineering" is fulfilled in the students groups up to nine persons in number. The education is oriented on classes in mathematics, physics, informatics, engineering drawing and chemistry. The education is fulfilled in English medium. Classes for Russian language are aimed to the Russian language possession at initial everyday level, and it does not ensure the possibility the future education in Russian medium. The acceptation is conducted at spring semester and the training duration lasts one semester.

The semester includes 20 academic weeks. The education lasts 20 academic hours (1 academic hour is 45 minutes) per week. In the semester (from February 7th to June 30th) besides the Russian languages classes (5 hours per week), the curriculum includes mathematics (6 hours per week), physics (4 hours per week), informatics (5 hours per week).

3. Preparation in Russian language before acceptation at the Master course after graduation from Bachelor course of other foreign or Russian university.

The foreign students entering Master of Science course MPEI offers the half-year and full-year programs. For these students, the Russian language only is included with the orientation on the future direction at Master course.

Half-a-year PC for entering at Master course can be chosen by the students possessing the initial Russian language in accordance with the requirements of the basing level. The acceptation is conducted in spring semester. The training program includes Russian language only with 30 academic hours per week. The training duration is one semester.

Full-year PC for entering the Master course must be chosen by the students who do not possess Russian language at all. The acceptation is conducted in autumn and spring semesters. The training program includes Russian language only with 30 academic hours per week. The training duration is two semesters.
